Me at the first little market we stopped at. It doesn't capture, at all, how incredibly busy it is. |
|
Me at a supermarket...this jug of cooking oil was as big as my torso (that's not saying much but it's still bigger than the stuff you get at Costco) |

The football stadium...not too bad, I like all the gates and fences! |

Me just inside the stadium. |

We called her "mommy"...she was great! |

Just said goodbye and was off to catch a ride home. |
Woke up a couple times but got to sleep
in today, in fact I didn't get out of the room until just after 11 to
make a sandwich. The pills I take to prevent malaria sure do make
my tummy feel really bad...hoping it turns around today. It was a
bit slow to turn around but it did. I got up and Ernest
(research/teaching assistant and colleague of Kwadwo) was here to
take me around town. Maureen also noticed a handful of new mosquito
bites on my legs and arms and is now insistent on buying posts for
our beds so we can erect mosquito nets to sleep under. Maureen was
going to see the doctor as her lack of sleep has her a bit more
concerned with the stomach aches too. Ernest and I went a ways into town and
visited another supermarket and more people were staring at my arm and a few asked to see it, in fact, a couple of younger kids walked towards me and so I also stopped, they took another step as did I and they screamed and ran off. I got to see the local football
stadium too and they let us all the way in so I could snap a few
pictures. On our way back we waited in the shade for a tro tro with
some people selling bags of water and various items and one lady who we
referred to as “mommy” was so eager to take a picture with me
when I asked. She immediately took the bowl off of her head and put her hair down for the photo and then we all just started laughing. Everyone was happy to be a part of the picture. Then we got back to the guest house and I dressed in
my shorts again and fixed some lunch. Just been kind of taking it
easy and helping Ernest with a couple things on the computer. I started to lay down for a nap but Maureen phoned Ernest and asked to speak to me. She informed me that she wouldn't be coming back home
tonight, so I'm solo tonight. Maybe I'll wash some vegetables and
make some food, the night is still young. I would certainly like to rest a little and I keep laying down but Ernest is still using Maureen's room to study
and every time I get really comfortable, he comes and knocks to tell
me he's still around. Kind of funny I guess and I suppose it'll be
nice when I actually try to go to sleep in a few hours. Well, the
few hours have passed and I found myself eating a little bit of sweet rice and coffee. All in all the day was
good...good company, great experiences and new perspectives!
Brandon!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Reading through your posts I can feel the trip unfolding for you. It sure sounds like it is off to a wonderful start. Good luck with everything and Vicka and I send our best. Back here weather has been great for climbing, still cool but I am sure it will turn hot soon.
Take care,
Nate and Vicka
