Day 5 (wednesday)

A look at my room, right-facing from the door.

A look at my room from the other side.
Today I woke up, straightened out my room, took a shower finally, and had some coffee and peanut butter and jam (which is pretty much my staple).  I noticed a funny bump on my head last night but we don't think it's anything and I'll keep an eye on it.  I went with Kwadwo and another student (Ernest) into town to meet with the director of the department of social welfare in Kumasi.  We walked around and I bought a mobile internet connection so I could keep in touch with everyone at home (you pay for 30 days worth and then recharge at the end of that time).  As we were walking to the director's office I was stopped by a guy who had to show me his paintings (they were actually really cool) and asked where I was from but then said he could just tell I was from America. Shortly after I broke with him a strange lady, not selling anything, grabbed my hand and started talking to me but may have been under the influence of something so I kept walking with Kwadwo and Ernest.  We met with the director and discussed what my work week will look like and agreed to start on Monday for a debriefing and that my work week would be Monday through Wednesday at various agencies (about 2 weeks per agency) with the rest of the week for writing my reports and having some free and leisure time.  We came back to the hostel and Maureen warmed up the stew and rice from yesterday (it totally hit the spot). She then introduced me to the landlord who had stopped by (his name is Prince) and also informed me that she had some extra window coverings and brought them to my room and fixed them up on my windows. I made some more coffee and Maureen told me that we were going to get mosquito nets and put them in our rooms because she could see a couple of bites on my arm and hopefully they can be installed in the next day or so.  For the time being I have just been in my room writing, it's great fun!  I also met Maureen's colleague/classmate, who's name I've forgotten right now, and she offered her perspective on what to expect within the various institutions and what it is really like as opposed to what I am likely to see, it was a wonderful chat and she offered to let me record her saying it.  I got to rest a bit more and then later Maureen and I took a tro tro (basically a torn down vw mini bus made to be a taxi that fits 8 to 12 people) to KNUST campus and walked around. It is much bigger than I originally thought. We walked around the resident's halls and then she showed me around the center of campus, the library and then the administration and lecture halls.  We walked to a super market and got a few things, I got a can of coke and some pringles (how American, I know) and then took a tro tro back to the house.  I finally slept pretty well but woke up in the middle of the night and was curious about the RSL match and everything I could see suggested that it was really boring so I video chatted with my mom and she confirmed it.  Good Night!
