Day 1 (saturday) Cinco de Mayo
Alright, it's here, the much anticipated adventure. Initial take-off is a mere 5 hours away and a kind soul awaits me in Chicago. Fortunately 4 hours allows me some time to catch up with an elusive friend. From there it's off to London where I have just enough of a break to leave the airport and see a few things and then away to Ghana. Thinking about the flights has been a bit intimidating but everyone assures me it's no big deal, I guess I'll keep updates as I arrive. I am so blessed and have had such wonderful people contribute to this experience and things just keep getting better and I haven't even left Salt Lake City yet. For those of you who know Edwina, she's an angel, she's intelligent, and incredibly kind-hearted. Edwina is a classmate of mine and is also from Accra and coincidentally went to KNUST (which is the university in Kumasi where I will be spending most of my time). I get into Accra shortly after the last flight to Kumasi takes off so I am having to stay one night in Accra upon arrival. Edwina suggested that I could stay with her mother and I was grateful for that but it turns out that her mother is now out of town so I assumed I would probably stay at the airport. I got a call from her yesterday telling me that she and her husband were going to pay for me to stay in a hotel. They have taken care of arranging for transportation to and from the airport and paid for the hotel (look it up, it isn't very cheap). Needless to say I am incredibly grateful. The trip is already amazing and it hasn't even really started. I will add to this post as I arrive in each city I'm in along the way. I feel adequately prepared and ready to go, only time will tell. Ready, Set, Go!
